“You’re not broken. Something happened to you. And what happened can be understood, and what is understood can be restored.”
A Seed Planted in Vegas
Michael Feller Jones arrived in Las Vegas with a background already rich in health and wellness. For years, he had been a holistic wellness practitioner and product formulator, running a marketing company and a plant-based wellness brand, Hemp Life Global. His work in California had already seen him helping veterans find relief through plant-based solutions, and he was deeply involved in the cannabis legalization movement, contributing to Prop 215, the Compassionate Use Act. The move to Las Vegas initially sparked a similar opportunity, as he was recruited to join the voter acquisition effort for Nevada's Question Two cannabis campaign. It was during this period that Feller Jones encountered remarkable individuals in the health and wellness world, experiences that deeply resonated and began to cultivate a new path.
“That season planted the seeds for everything that came next,” Feller Jones reflects, noting how it deepened his resolve to serve veterans through root-cause, holistic care. This pivotal moment set him on the trajectory that would eventually lead to the founding of Operation Whole Health, his nonprofit dedicated to providing comprehensive, personalized care to those who have served.
The Patient Zero Blueprint
The true turning point in Feller Jones’s journey arrived through an encounter with a Marine combat veteran named Edgar Rodriguez. Edgar, a former Action Coach, connected with Feller Jones on LinkedIn, leading to a conversation that unveiled the depths of veterans' struggles with chronic pain and limited treatment options. Their meeting over lunch proved transformative. Feller Jones and his team, then running Impact Wellness, shared a pain oil with Edgar. The results were significant, but it was the subsequent investigation into Edgar's condition that truly changed everything.
As Edgar began to heal, Feller Jones and his team started to reverse-engineer his symptoms. Burn pits. Parasites. Traumatic brain injury. They realized that Edgar's pain was not the root problem but a symptom of deeper toxic exposures that had gone unaddressed by conventional medicine. This realization sparked Feller Jones’s mission: to reverse-engineer veteran suicide by working backward from the crisis to its true origins, and then to forge a path forward through plant medicine, clean diet, detoxification, and community support. Edgar, in this sense, became “patient zero,” his personalized healing journey serving as the foundational blueprint for Operation Whole Health.
Beyond the Pharmaceutical Fix
Operation Whole Health, under Feller Jones’s leadership, focuses on a community often overlooked by traditional medical approaches: veterans and their families. These individuals, who have given their bodies and minds in service, frequently return home with invisible wounds – burn pit exposure, parasites, traumatic brain injury, chronic pain, and sleepless nights. Too often, they are met with prescriptions that merely mask symptoms, allowing root causes to fester. Feller Jones argues that what veterans truly need is care that delves deeper, asking why they are hurting, rather than simply how to silence the pain.
“They need their bodies cleared of what they were exposed to, nourished with real food, and supported with plant medicine that works with their biology instead of against it,” he explains. Crucially, they also need each other. Feller Jones understands that isolation is a significant threat to veterans, and that healing accelerates in an environment of brotherhood, purpose, and shared understanding. This philosophy underpins Veterans At Ease, Operation Whole Health's program, which offers personalized assessments, tailored wellness protocols, and, most importantly, a supportive community where no veteran walks alone.
The Quiet Grin of Peace
Feller Jones carries many stories from his work, but one memory stands out: a night under the stars in a Las Vegas backyard. Master Sergeant Wes Cagle, an Air Force veteran who helped shape the Veterans At Ease program, and Master Gunnery Sergeant Dave Eckerson, a retired Marine Corps veteran, were both working with Operation Whole Health independently. Recognizing a shared spirit, Feller Jones arranged for them to meet. That night, these two master sergeants, with over fifty years of combined service, sat by a fire pit, sharing stories, laughter, and camaraderie.
Watching Wes Cagle lean back in his chair, puffing on a cigar with a quiet, contented grin, was a profound moment for Feller Jones. “That grin is the only real measurement we strive for,” he says. For Feller Jones, witnessing these men, who had endured so much, find peace and brotherhood in each other's company, underscored the vital role of community in healing. It was a powerful reminder that connection is not an auxiliary part of recovery, but its very essence.
The Path Ahead: A Systemic Shift
Looking to the future, Michael Feller Jones is building toward a singular, ambitious goal: making root-cause, holistic care accessible to every veteran. His forthcoming book, What Happened to Our Veterans: The Biological Cascade and the Price of Service, aims to be a field manual for understanding the biological impacts of service and a roadmap for recovery. Concurrently, he is expanding Veterans At Ease, welcoming more veterans into personalized programs supported by community.
Beyond individual healing, Feller Jones is committed to systemic change. He is preparing a research study with special forces operators to gather data on natural support for recovery, and perhaps most impactful, he is drafting two pieces of legislation: the Breaking the Cascade Act and the Veterans Own Blood Act. These acts seek to integrate root-cause, holistic care into the existing military and veteran healthcare systems, ensuring that future generations of service members have access to comprehensive support. For Feller Jones, success is measured not by accolades, but by the quiet grin of a veteran finding peace, and by the creation of a future where no veteran is told there is nothing more that can be done. It’s a legacy of restoration, built person by person, with the ultimate hope that every veteran comes home whole, not just alive.
The Unending Mission
Ultimately, Feller Jones believes success will be measured by what veterans can achieve in the second half of their lives. These men and women have given their best years to their country, and they deserve to return home not just alive, but whole. If his work can help even one veteran wake up clear, strong, and at peace, inspiring them to reach back for a struggling brother or sister, then the biological cascade will have been broken in a way no law or book alone could achieve. “That is the legacy I want to leave. Not a company, not a title, but a growing line of restored veterans standing shoulder to shoulder, each one proof that what happened to them was never the end of their story.”
