However, just as a sense of stability began to emerge, another blow struck. The building where he leased space unexpectedly closed its doors, forcing Rivera back into truck driving to make ends meet. This period was profoundly difficult. "I was very depressed," he shares, describing the emotional toll of having to step away from his dream. But true to his nature, he didn't stay down for long, eventually bouncing back to open his business in a second location, a testament to his indomitable spirit.

Lessons from the Fall

Adversity, for Rivera, has been a potent, albeit painful, teacher. He candidly acknowledges the steep learning curve of entrepreneurship. "I had to fall on my face a few times in order to learn what I needed to learn," he explains. The experience of being forced to close his business and return to driving felt like a profound personal defeat. "Feeling like you have no help, no money after I was forced to close and go back to driving killed me inside," he confesses. Yet, these struggles forged an unshakeable inner strength, teaching him the critical importance of persistence and self-reliance.

His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is straightforward and unvarnished: "Be prepared to work harder than you ever worked in your life. No days off, no vacation, long hours, and people's opinions that will try to shake you." He emphasizes the need for unwavering determination, urging others to be ready for every challenge that comes with owning a business, and to always get back up after a fall.

"I'm building towards leaving a legacy for my family and my island to show the world that coming from a tiny island in the Pacific with nothing, they can all do the same."
