Every Tuesday at 7 p.m., between eight and fifteen people show up to a small community room in Henderson. There's no sign-up, no fee, no LinkedIn pitch. There's Coach Nia, a whiteboard, and one question written across the top: What are you avoiding this week?
"Everyone thinks mentorship is career advice," she says. "It's not. It's a person willing to look at your life with you."
Why she started it
Nia was a corporate leadership coach for a decade before she realized her most transformative sessions weren't with executives — they were the free ones she gave to her friends' kids over coffee.
"I was charging companies $500 an hour to say what I already said to my niece for free. I figured I could do both."
The format
- First 15 minutes: Everyone answers the whiteboard question out loud. - Middle hour: One person takes the "hot seat." The room asks questions, not gives advice. - Last 15 minutes: Everyone names one action for the week.
What she's learned about leaders
The best ones, she says, "ask better questions than they answer. And they never, ever mentor down. They mentor across."
